This is the dramatic moment paramedics raced against the clock to save a driver locked inside his car after having a seizure.

Locals called the emergency services after the Mitsubishi Pajero crashed into a road barrier in Samut Prakan, central Thailand last Thursday (March 5) night.

Passers-by walked over to the car to investigate after noticing that nobody had emerged from the wreckage. They then saw the driver having a seizure inside, but the car's central locking system meant the door was firmly shut.

Rescue teams rushed to the scene, where they had to smash the window to unlock the car door. A fire had also broken out on the car's rear as the driver still had his foot pressed down on the pedal.

Workers spent five minutes before they successfully brought the body out of the car.

The paramedics found the driver's heart pounding rapidly. He was taken to hospital where his condition was stabilised.

Officers believe the driver had a pre-existing condition. They said: "This is what caused him to lose the control of car and crash.''

Police Colonel Sophon Mongkolsophonrat said: "Initially, it appeared to be an unexpected accident but we need to question him because he might have been breaking the law if his condition prevents him from driving."
