Elephant in Sri Lanka desperately tries to wake up dead friend and refuses to leave its side

This is a heart-wrenching moment for a wild tusker who found its friend dead in the forest refused to leave its side in Sri Lanka.

The incident took place in December 2018 in Kalawewa National Park.

The video shows the wild tusker nudging and nuzzling the body of a dead elephant.

The desperate attempt to rouse the dead tusker went on for hours until the elephant finally walked away from the scene.

According to the reports, the elephant had died in a fight during the musth.

The musth is a periodical change of the behaviour of elephant bulls, which can last from some weeks up to some months.

It happens during the mating season of the animals.
