Czech, Slovak Tourists Test Positive for COVID-19
Citizens of the Czech Republic and Slovakia who recently visited Georgia’s ski resort Gudauri have tested positive for the new coronavirus.
One Czech citizen was confirmed as having COVID-19 after traveling to Gudauri together with a 6-member tourist group on March 4-9. Another infected person is a Slovak citizen, a member of the same tourist group. Both persons were diagnosed with the infection after returning to their home countries.
“The tourists did not show any symptoms while in Georgia. They stood up to their civic responsibility and informed us of their infection, after which we began searching for the places they had visited and who they had contacted”, says Head of the Risk Management and Response Division of the National Center for Disease Control, Ana Kasradze.
The administration of Gudauri’s restaurant ‘Drunk Cherry’ announced its shutting down last night as the venue was visited regularly by the persons who contracted COVID-19.
"We are all in self-isolation, the restaurant is closed; two employees have high fever. Anyone who visited ‘Drunk Cherry’ these days should consult a medical facility”, reads the official statement by the restaurant’s administration.
As of now, Georgia has 33 registered cases of the coronavirus. 637 persons are in quarantine.
Nations across the world have imposed travel restrictions to curb the spread of COVID-19. The novel virus has killed nearly 6,521 persons with over 169,924 infected worldwide.
