Famous tourist attractions were deserted on Wednesday (March 18) in central London, which has been called a "hotspot" for coronavirus by top UK COVID-19 expert Professor Neil Ferguson.

In this footage, Trafalgar Square, the London Eye, and Piccadilly Circus are amongst well-known locations seen with an eerily low number of visitors.

Prof Ferguson has had to self-isolate after developing a "dry but persistent cough" and then "high fever". He added, "there is a lot of COVID-19 in Westminster".

A lockdown of the UK capital is rumoured to take place in the coming days. There are over 2,600 known cases of COVID-19 and over 100 deaths in the UK.
