This African elephant was captured enjoying a mud bath on a blistering day in South Africa's Pilansberg National Park.

The elephant is seen covering itself with the mud to protect its skin from the sun.

This footage was filmed in 2016.

What could be more refreshing on a hot day in the African bush than a cool pool with shower - and elephants have their own shower attachment. As well as splishing and splashing with their feet, they use their trunk to spray muddy water all over their body. The mud then acts as a sun-screen and protection from biting flies, as well as prolonging the cooling effect as it slows evaporation of the water off their skin.
