An Indian town was put under lockdown as eight foreign nationals who travelled around the country by train tested positive for COVID 19.

Karimnagar in north Telangana woke up to the news of lockdown on March 19.

The eight men are from Indonesia, which has reported 19 deaths and 227 positive coronavirus cases so far.

Telangana Health Minister stated, "The men had arrived in New Delhi a week ago. They took the AP Sampark Kranti Express and came to Ramagundam on 14 March.

The group hired a private vehicle to Karimnagar where they resided in a mosque for two nights.

According to local reports, the group of men went for COVID-19 screening on directions of the town police.

While one of them tested positive on March 17, health authorities unveiled seven more of the group as affected late on March 19.

The local people who came in contact with them were sent to Hyderabad for the test.

Since the group stayed in a mosque close to the collectorate, the area within a radius 3km from the place has been cordoned off.

A massive drive has been organised to sanitise around 10,000 houses in the area.

A local lawmaker who took the stock of the situation appealed to the general public to remain indoors for their own safety.

In Telangana state, as many as 13 Covid 19 cases, including eight foreign nationals, have been reported so far. 

People are startled and despondent with the present scenario.
