Pesky ants! Get off my legs! Ants bothering a Dwarf Mongoose

Buy video

Dwarf Mongooses (Helogale parvula) are the smallest species of mongoose in southern Africa, and one of my favourite animals. They are carnivores, taking a range of invertebrates, small lizards and snakes, small birds and rodents, and are highly social, living in family groups of 2-30. This adult Dwarf Mongoose emerged from the grass next to our vehicle, and remained alert while large ants crawled over its front legs. The ants irritated it greatly, and it shook its legs and made small dashes in an attempt to shake them off.
