A shop has started producing handmade cotton face masks to protect against the coronavirus.

Locals said they have been affected by a shortage of surgical face masks in Trang, southern Thailand.

Footage from Saturday (21/03) afternoon shows how one shop has been using traditional wooden machine to twill the masks in colourful patterns.

Community chief Arrob Ruengsung said they have been flooded with orders for the face mask by worried residents who want protection against covid-19.

She said: "Our twill was once very popular among residents and tourists but recently we haven't had many orders. So we decided to use the materials to make face masks, which we know people need desperately.

"It received much interest from the people that we have already produced 400 pieces in the last four days and we are welcome to produce more to match the customer needs."

The face mask comes in two sizes for adults and for children they cost 50THB (1.32 GBP) and 45THB (1.20 GBP) respectively.

The chief added that mask has also boosted the sales of their machines.

She said: "Some customer said they wanted to make the face mask themselves so they bought the full piece."
