Fear of the corona prompted a big wedding to be drastically scaled down in South India.

Just six members from the immediate families of the bride and groom attended the wedding. A priest, two musicians, photographers and temple officials helped the couple get married.

Venkatasuresh Kumar and Vanaja of Guntur district in South India were engaged to marry on March 20 at a wedding hall at Tirumala, a popular Hindu pilgrimage centre, which draws tens of thousands of devotees every day.

Last week the temple officials at Tirumala closed down all buildings for visitors after a devotee tested positive for corona. But as Kumar and Vanaja’s wedding had been planned months in advance they allowed the ceremony to be held but permitted only the immediate family members to be present.

Venkatasuresh Kumar and Vanaja told local reporters that they were happy to get married and thanked the temple officials for their help.
