In January Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha told reporters he was considering limitations on personal use of cars. "If the dust levels rise to more than 100 micrograms per cubic meter, the government will take over all the work and everyone will be affected," the prime minister continued. "Is that what we want? Do we really have to go that far?".

Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha was hoping to provoke a reaction in the Thai private sector and encourage companies to develop more green friendly transportation and solutions to the challenge of air pollution.
