Dozens of taxi drivers were waiting in long queues for hours without any customers today (March 23) as a Covid-19 shut down was enforced in Bangkok, Thailand.

The cabbies are normally busy with customers outside one of the city's biggest shopping malls next to the Phra Ram 9 subway station but they have been suffering from the coronavirus restrictions.

All retail shops, bars and restaurants have been closed and a travel ban has brought tourist arrivals to zero. While the country's government have urged locals not to go outside as the country steps up efforts to contain the disease.

Footage from this afternoon shows the brightly coloured pink, yellow and green Toyota taxis idle by the side of the road without any customers in sight.

Thailand has 1,045 declared infections and four deaths attributed to the Covid-19 coronavirus. Earlier today, wearing protective face masks on the country's trains was made compulsory.
