Bonobo family life in the rainforests of DRC

Deep in the Congo basin, a family of bonobos relax. The mother and father groom each other while their playful infant amuses himself, using the leaves and branches in a natural jungle gym.
This community of bonobos, a critically endangered species, live in Kokolopori, DRC, where they are being studied and protected by Bonobo Conservation Initiative in partnership with the local community.
All such sites are now closed to visitors due to the Covid-19 pandemic - great apes share so much DNA with humans that they are susceptible to our diseases.
