Sir Robin Knox-Johnston announces postponement of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race in an interview, followed by B-Roll of the race in action, leaving London back in September 2019, race action on board with big waves and the crew battling the oceans as they race around the world.

The race had taken them to Portugal, Uruguay, Cape Town, Perth in Australia, then Airlie Beach in Queensland, Australia where they left on schedule after 6 months of racing to go to 3 stop-overs in China - however en route after a month of racing, they were diverted to the Philippines due to the C-19 situation. They then were forced to abandon the race for now and all of the 250 crew had to fly home. The race is postponed until January 2021, when it will resume from there.

This is a life changing experience for everyone who takes part. Beginning with the intensive training these amateur sailors undergo in the build up to the race, we follow them around the world as they learn how to sail, and how to cope with each other over the next 11-months in the close, enclosed surroundings of 70 foot yacht. These are raw novices, most of whom have never sailed before, but are searching for the adventure of a lifetime. Builders, accountants, bankers, CEO’s, cooks and shop assistants – every kind of profession and personality must blend together into a team, as they take on 40,000 miles through the world’s most challenging oceans. Not everyone gets along when it’s freezing cold or beyond boiling hot, in the dark hours of the night, and are soaked to the skin…

Mountainous waves, cramped conditions, 4 hour shifts and hot-bunking, battered and bruised, living life at 45 degrees as the yachts pound ever onwards through the oceans on a quest for success. These are powerful boats, built to last and race proven, but sailing them with up to 24 people aboard is a challenge that’s physically and mentally exhausting for everyone aboard, young or old. It’s a fascinating look at how ordinary people cope with adversity when put into this harsh environment, and hopefully survive to emerge as winners.

This is the 12th edition of the biennial race, which began in 1995.
