Local authorities in Coimbatore, southern India use water cannons, more often used to disperse protests, to spray the streets with disinfectant on Friday (March 27).

A 21-day total lockdown in the country was announced on March 24 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

The Coimbatore Municipal corporation is working on the disinfection from Vajra vehicles on roads and government offices.

Various precautions have been taken to prevent the spread of coronavirus. As part of this, the municipality of Coimbatore has been spraying the antiseptic with the Vajra vehicle used to suppress the protests. The 14,000-liter vehicle is being used for spraying antiseptic on the road, including the District Collectorate, Municipal Police Commissioner's Complex, Court, Railway Station and Government Hospital.
