Beyond call of duty: Police personnel feed poor amid nationwide 21-day-long lockdown for coronavirus in western India
The biggest concern for the lockdown of the world's largest democracy is the hunger and poverty that dwells over 22 per cent of India's below poverty line population.
Police personnel have been donning new roles every day, locating homeless, destitute people and providing them with food in the western Indian state of Gujarat.
The incident took place at Kodinar of Gir Somnath district on March 28, 2020.
With all restaurants closed in the city until 21-day-long lockdown ends, homeless people are struggling even for a square meal a day.
The video shows police personnel delivering essential items to the needy people and daily wagers who have been starving due to the lockdown.
This initiative grew within days of its inception and it ensures that no person goes to bed hungry.
A similar distribution drive was conducted across the nation to assist the starving in the time of lockdown due to the deadly coronavirus pandemic.
