Police forces have taken the novel approach of punishing the lockdown violators amid the 21-day-long nationwide lockdown set in place to contain the deadly coronavirus in northern India.

The incident took place at Tehri district of Uttarakhand on March 30, 2020.

The video shows, cops wearing surgical masks bashing up lockdown violators to teach them the consequences of violating the prohibitory protocols.

The police can also be seen making them do sit-ups and holding ears to teach them the consequences of flouting the lockdown.

Further, the video shows, cops pursuing two youths on the street to stop them from loitering around.

The violators were given ‘Murga punishment’ (Murga is a stress position used as a corporal punishment mainly in parts of the Indian subcontinent. It is used by the police as a summary, informal punishment for a petty crime). where they had to sit in a position resembling that of a rooster, squatting, looping the arms behind the knees and firmly holding the ears.

According to sources, the violators apologized and assured that they will not violate the lockdown again.

Indian police are taking all steps required to emphasize the importance of staying home to prevent the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
