Amid the nationwide lockdown, police officials have vandalized and upturned the carts of vegetable vendors in the western Indian state of Gujarat.

The incident took place at Krishnanagar, Ahmedabad, on March 31, 2020.

According to sources, the vendors were allowed to sell the vegetables from 5 AM until 8 AM.

Around 9 A.M, police officials arrived at the spot and dispersed the vendors gathered at the area.

Following this, the uniformed police officials walked up to the carts and upturned them scattering the vegetables on the road.

Fruits and vegetables fall under the essential services category and are thus exempt from the 21-day-long nationwide lockdown put in place to contain the coronavirus pandemic.

However,  several states have put in measures to curb the gatherings, it is not clear if these vendors were operating with permission.

According to reports, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner has suspended an Inspector and other officials in response to the shocking incident.

The pandemic has brought out the best and worst among the people.

The COVID-19 crisis appears escalating with 1251 total positive cases across India.
