The confinement in homes due to the state of alarm to combat the health crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic will make it more expensive for consumers to receive electricity by almost 26 euros for the higher electricity consumption derived from homes. According to Selectra data, the higher electricity consumption in homes during this exceptional period will cause an increase of 25.72 euros in the bill for a home for four people - a couple and two children - and 15.60 euros in the case of a home where two people live together.

These increases in the receipt will be a consequence of carrying out activities in the home that did not take place so regularly before; such as telecommuting, eating lunch and dinner daily in the houses, as well as extending leisure time.

To this amount, the Selectra study highlights that it would be necessary to add the expense derived from the use of the washing machine, the dishwasher and the lighting.

In the specific case of a family of four, with a contracted power of 4.6 kilowatts (kW) and an average annual consumption of 3,500 kWh, the usual monthly electric bill would be about 54 euros, which will increase the increase up to about 80 euros.

Regarding a home in which two people live, with less power (3.5 kW) and less consumption (3,000 kWh per year), the bill would be about 44 euros, bringing this higher consumption from confinement It will take the receipt to about 60 euros. Despite this increase in electricity bills during this period
