The Italian chain restaurant, Carluccio's, has gone into administration at the end of March 2020. The collapses has been blamed on a highly competitive market place and “challenging trading conditions” which have been exacerbated by the coronavirus.

The majority of the 2000 employees will be paid through the government’s job retention scheme whilst other options are being explored to save the franchise.

Carluccio’s in Bury St Edmunds has given all their employees furlough in which they are paid 80% of their salary based on governments newly unveiled job retention scheme.

Susan (name changed) had been working for Carluccio’s in Bury St Edmunds for 5 years.
“I was gutted when we heard the news. They didn’t treat us well at the end either. We only got half our salary for March. They also took a huge percentage of card tips two days before we heard the news. The manager said they were taking a slice of the card tips on top of other deductions to save the company but it collapsed two days later anyway.

I’ve been with Carluccio’s so long it is sad to see it finish like this. I have got another job for the time being and I’ll just have to see what happens in the future”.
