Regular and Christmas markets cancelled in Bury St Edmunds amid coronavirus pandemic

West Suffolk Council have made the decision to cancel the famous Christmas market which is held in front of the Abbey Gardens Gate in Bury St Edmunds due to concerns about the coronavirus. West Suffolk Council says the decision has been taken to cancel the Christmas market in order to free up officer time and resources to support businesses currently operating and their recovery in the future.

Along with the decision to cancel the Christmas market, the historic butter market square in Bury St Edmunds which has hosted a market every Wednesdays for decades, fell silent today as a result of the coronavirus lock down. The normally vibrant and bustling market in the centre of Bury St Edmunds has been cancelled due to the outbreak of the coronavirus under the instructions of the government.
