Hungry Mum scoffs leaves greedily while her infant plays nearby - Zanzibar Red Colobus Monkeys at home in Jozani Forest.
In the Jozani Forest National Park of Zanzibar, the strikingly beautiful red colobus monkeys, Piliocolobus kirkii, are completely used to humans, who in this location neither hunt them or chase them away; thus, for any tourists lucky enough to visit, there is a rare chance to observe natural primate behaviour with very little observer-oriented behaviour. Sadly, elsewhere in Zanzibar the monkeys are declining in number through hunting and deforestation, and so are classed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List.
