Disinfection tunnel installed to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in southern India
As COVID-19 spreads throughout the world, Tiruppur district brought up a ‘disinfection tunnel’ as part of the precautionary measures at the entrance of the Uzhavar Santhai in Thennampalayam.
The incident took place on April 1, 2020.
When people will walk inside the tunnel, two sets of three nozzles will spray a 1% sodium hypochlorite solution on them for a duration of between three to five seconds.
Visitors to the Thennampalayam vegetable market in Tiruppur were surprised as they were asked to walk through a ‘disinfection tunnel’ before entering the sprawling ground to shop.
People who enter the market are asked to wash their hands and walk through the ‘disinfection tunnel’ for three to four seconds.
The video shows, people walking through the ‘tunnel’ one by one with their hands up.
“The tunnel adds value to our efforts to prevent further outspread of COVID-19. The solution used to spray is 1 percent of sodium hypochlorite in 1 ppm and it has been tested and reviewed by a team of doctors,” the Collector told DH.
The district collector insisted that the ‘tunnel’ will only supplement existing measures like washing hands, wearing masks and maintaining physical distance in preventing the further spread of coronavirus.
The ‘disinfection tunnel’ is part of efforts by the Tiruppur District administration to prevent further spread of coronavirus.
