With the humans busy isolating and quarantining themselves, a wild tusker appears to have gotten a free reign, "inspecting" the lockdown in northern India.

The incident took place at Haridwar in Uttarakhand on April 2, 2020, at around 3:56 AM.

As India asks its human population to stay at home to limit the spread of novel coronavirus, wild animals have been spotted exploring the empty streets of some of the nation's largest urban areas.

The video shows an elephant strolling on the near-empty streets near the world-famous Ganga ghat, Har Ki Pauri of Haridwar.

Following this, the elephant takes to the empty streets lined with shuttered shops.

The march of the wild tusker spread panic among the locals, as officials pursued the animal to prevent any mishaps.

According to sources, the curious animal walked several kilometres inspecting the urban areas in nearby localities.

However, no casualties were reported after the incident.

As the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic continues to claim more lives around the world, a majority of the Indian population has been advised to remain indoors and maintain social distancing to avoid contracting COVID-19.
