After a marathon operation, forest officials managed to rescue a drowning striped hyena from a large well in the western Indian state of Maharashtra.

The incident took place at Shankarwadi, in the Yeola of Nashik district on Thursday (April 2).

According to local media, the farm owner spotted the drowning animal and alerted forest officials.

Officials from Nashik Forest Department immediately rushed to the scene and dropped a cage inside the well for the hyena to climb into.

Luckily, after several attempts, the animal was hauled out of the well and later released into the nearby Nashik Forest.

The video shows the officials using a cage to rescuing the striped hyena from the well.

According to sources, the farm owner spotted the drowning animal and alerted the forest officials.

Following this, a cage was dropped inside the well, for the hyena to climb into it.

After several attempts, the animal was hauled out of the well.

According to reports, forest officials of Yeola received a call from the farm owner in Shankarwadi saying that a hyena had fallen into the well and was struggling to stay afloat.

The officials from Nashik Forest Department immediately rushed to the spot and rescued the stranded hyena.

The animal was later released into the nearby Nashik Forest.
