A kind neighbour in the Philippines has created an improvised disinfectant spray using waste materials to help fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

The DIY sanitising machine is made from a water container, some plastic tubes, old rubber bands, and a pump.

Alva Rez from Pasig City in the Metro Manila region said that his neighbour created the improvised spray to help keep their neighbourhood coronavirus-free.

She said: "The spray is a big help for our compound. It makes us feel safe from the coronavirus now that we can disinfect our surroundings better on our own."

The neighbours take turn cleaning the communal area around their homes, or compound, using chlorine bleach and water mixture. The video was recorded on April 3.

The Philippines has seen 3,660 cases of coronavirus so far with a death toll of 163.

Community quarantine has been placed for certain regions, with the strongest measure in Metro Manila which has become the epicentre of the pandemic.
