The City of Cape Town intends to house 4000 homeless people in a safe space camp to implemement the lockdown currently in place in south africa.

Currently south Africa is on day 13 of a 21 day lock down enforced by the president.

Homeless individuals have been rounded up and place at the strandfontein sports field in tents with basic services such as water and electricity.

The South African Human Rights Commission visited the site today and Commissioner Chris Nissen says he has concerns about the site which he will raise with authorities.

He also said that curtailing freedom of movement and association during this time is necessary to save lives.
