A reckless driver stopped his car in the middle of a deserted motorway to pose for pictures during the coronavirus lock down.

The driver was seen parked up on the highway in Bangkok, Thailand, on March 29 at 3am in the morning.

He climbed out of the white Mazda and began taking selfies with the vehicle and the empty flyover in the background.

However, eagle-eyed highway cops noticed the prankster on CCTV cameras. They tracked him down and discovered he had been boasting online about ''challenging the Covid-19 curfew''.

Local media reported that the drive was fined for 40,000THB (991GBP) under the country's Computer Crime Act for posting about the stunt online.

A few days later on April 3, Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam announced a curfew in Bangkok from 10pm until 4am every night.

Social-distancing guidelines, business closures and stay-at-home restrictions had already been in effect when the driver performed the dangerous stunt.

Officials in Thailand, where there has been 2,423 cases and 32 deaths, have taken firm measures to stop the spread of the virus including closing entire regions, enforcing curfews, cancelling all flights, shutting businesses and in some places even arresting residents who don't wear face masks.
