Temperature lowers as hailstorm lashes tourist town in northeastern India

The temperature in northeastern India's Sikkim state came down significantly after heavy hailstorm lashed the region on April 9.

Visuals show people coming out of their homes and enjoying the view at MG Marg, a tourist hotspot in Gangtok, the state capital.

According to reports, hails the size of golf balls pelted the city for an hour, leaving it wrapped with a white blanket-like cover.

The state, along with others, is undergoing a 21-day lockdown which has been imposed by the government to contain the spread of the deadly coronavirus disease.

The virus, which originated from China's Wuhan city, has killed more than 50,000 people while affecting at least one and a half million people in over 180 countries.
