Greece: 30 Centennial olive trees transplanted from Halkidiki in Thessaloniki city center. Thirty centuries-old olive trees from Halkidiki are planted in one of the most central parts of Thessaloniki, specifically along Angelaki Street, "transforming" the image of the road.

The olive trees, replaced the poplars on the sidewalk which were cut down some time ago, due to the danger for pedestrians and cars.

Thessaloniki Mayor Konstantinos Zervas, in whose presence the planting process began. "These trees, in addition to being valuable, will have an irrigation system and an excellent lighting system so that we can enjoy them as elements of the city," he added. He underlined that the municipality of Thessaloniki does not stop working despite the pandemic of the coronavirus and expressed the view that "when this crisis stops for good, our city and our country will be better".

Although the olive tree is a tree intertwined with the Greek landscape, to this day it is hardly found in the urban fabric of Thessaloniki.
