Endangered shoebill gathers nesting material in Uganda

The Shoebill, or Whalehead, stork Balaeniceps rex is one of the most extraordinary birds on Earth. Living in African wetlands from South Sudan to Zambia, it is a stealth predator, standing motionless for hours in swamps until an unlucky eel or catfish wriggles into view, to be snapped up by that lethal hooked beak.
With probably fewer than 5,000 adult birds, the species is listed as Vulnerable to extinction by the IUCN.
This individual, gathering nesting material, lives in the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre, Entebbe, Uganda. A Crowned Crane has a walk-on part in the video, No.25 in the #BrightenYourDay series to lift spirits during the Covid-19 lockdown.
