Police book several for obstruction, flouting Covid-19 lockdown rules in northern India

A video has emerged of duty-bound law enforcement officials getting heckled by locals in the north Indian state of Uttarakhand amid the ongoing lockdown imposed by the government as a measure to counter and contain the spread of the pandemic novel coronavirus.

The incident took place at the Banbhoolpura area in Haldwani city of Nainital district.

Visuals show locals heckling police officials and even resorting to physical contact.

According to reports, the police had visited the neighbourhood in order to arrest a person based on complaints by a local officer.

However, things took an ugly turn as the members of the alleged perpetrator resisted the policemen from doing their job.

People were seen flouting lockdown rules and coming out of their homes.

Taking cognisance of the matter, a first information report has been lodged by the law enforcement officers against those involved.

The initial complaint was made by a councillor, who alleged misconduct by the accused.
