Fascinating museum of miniature sculptures opens in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand
Foootage shows a new 'miniatures museum' that opened up in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand to house new tiny sculptures.
Chiang Mai provincial cultural officer Saneh Saiyenjai and cultural matriarch Daruneenart Nartkong inaugurated the Amazing Thai miniature museum.
The museum displays more than 30,000 tiny sculptures representing the Thai traditional way of life and culture.
Footage shows tourists visiting the museum and walking around to examine the tiny sculptures.
The matriarch's daughter Piyanuch Sakuntanak said all the sculptures were her mother's precious collection that she had bought from more 4,000 sculptors.
She said: "There are more than 4,000 sculptors in the country who sent their works to compete in an annual competition.
"My mother chose the pieces she liked best and bought them to fill her collection every year. The sculptures in the museum are a product of her over 50 years of collecting.
"She first opened a museum for her collection in 1993 and decided to build a new one here after the old place became too crowded to display them all.''
The museum is free for students and the elderly. It also provides a sculpting workshop for interested visitors.
