Amid a nationwide lockdown imposed by the government in its effort to check the spread of the deadly novel coronavirus disease, a resident of a village in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal sustained serious injuries after being attacked by an elephant that strayed away from the forest and entered the neighbourhood.

The incident took place on April 14 near Binpur village of Jhargram district.

Visual shows the pachyderm moving in the neighbourhood as tensed residents make noises in an effort to scare the mammal and force it to go back to the forest.

According to reports, the elephant attacked a person, who was rushed to a hospital and is undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, the incident left several residents tensed and angry.
