Mother and baby elephant rescued after being stuck for two days in illegally constructed well in Sri Lanka
Wildlife officials in Sri Lanka rescued an elephant and her calf after they fell and got stuck inside an illegally constructed well in the town of Hambantota.
Footage filmed on April 14 shows officials using flashlights to locate the mother and her calf.
In a three-hour long operation, officials used an excavator to break the well boundary.
Sensing a way out, the mother elephant charges towards the claw of the excavator, however, she soon steps back as the height of the wall seems too steep. After more soil is removed, both the mother and the baby manage to get out safely.
According to reports, the elephants had fallen inside the well two days prior to their rescue.
