City of Cape Town Councillors battle to perform oversight at Covid 19 Homeless Camp

Municipal police officers under instruction from their superiors barred entry to City Councillors at the Homeless safe space in Strandfontein earlier today.

Councillors from opposition parties including the African National Congress, Freedom Front and the African Christian Democratic party were prevented from performing oversight visits at the camp.

The camp houses over 1600 people collected from streets accross the city of Cape Town.

1 - Commissioner Chris Nissen from the South African Human Rights Council says he invited the councillors along to vlear up the rumours about the venue.

2 - Member of the National parliament Faiez Jacobs called for the camp to be closed.
