It was to be a weekend of celebration for the Great Central Railway based at Loughborough to celebrate the launch of the complex at the site of Swithland sidings, until one of the locomotives based on the railway derailed in a siding at Quorn & Woodhouse station just before 09:35. The railway temporarily suspended their timetable which for the weekend was modified to be an intensive service with additional passenger trains, freight workings and demonstration travelling post office run bys were scheduled to take place. Once the situation was assessed the railway made sure the locomotive which had derailed was safe before getting the passenger service back to normal and cancelling all freight and TPO demonstrations.
The railway were pretty quick dealing with the situation, the increased amount of passengers at this gala event and they had even started the planning and preparation of recovering the locomotive moments after the disaster happened
