A woman who was having a driving lesson with her husband reportedly crashed through a barrier and plunged into a reservoir.

Leng Pheak , 36, and his partner, Pich, 32, had taken the brand new silver Toyota Highlander out for a spin in Banteay Meanchey Province, Cambodia, on April 19.

But the wife, who was learning to drive, reportedly hit the accelerator by accident and clattered through a fence.

The vehicle plunged more than 20ft into the water below but landed on a concrete ledge, preventing it from sinking into the depths.

The husband, wife and a third person, Neath, 29, who was in the back passenger seat were rescued from the scene and taken to hospital.

The three people suffered minor injuries and pictures show they were conscious after climbing out of the wreckage.

Local media reported that the accident happened at 1:10pm at a boat ramp near the Tropeang Thmor reservoir.

Police officers arrived at the scene and confirmed that the couple and the passenger were taken to hospital.

Officers said that they were investigating the crash as a case of ''driving without attention''.
