This is the scary moment an adult elephant breaks away from its herd and chase a vehicle in Sri Lanka's North Central Province.

The incident took place in Habarana on April 11.

Visual shows the herd blocking the road as the vehicle approaches.

Seeing the car, the adult elephant, identified as a female, charges towards the vehicle, forcing the driver to reverse it.

Fortunately, it stops soon and enters the roadside bush.

A few moments later the elephant ventures out of the bush and runs towards the car, forcing the driver to put the car on reverse once more.

Frustrated with the wait as other elephants casually walk on the road, the driver turns on the headlamps, hoping to scare away the pachyderms.

As the driver prepares to cross the stretch, another vehicle is seen coming from the other side.

The incident took place amid a curfew that has been imposed in the area to stop the spread of the deadly novel coronavirus disease.

With humans staying indoors, several wild animals have been seen frequenting public places.
