The Indian army in Kashmir rescued a top government official and his driver after their vehicle was buried by an avalanche on April 21.

An Avalanche Rescue Team managed to dig out the buried vehicle from the snow and broke the windshield to rescue the trapped passengers.

According to an eye witness, the avalanche was just short of rolling the vehicle down the cliff.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Karnah, Bilal Mohudin Bhat, was pulled from the vehicle and given immediate first aid treatment.

Indian Army Rescues SDM, Karnah at Sadhna Tangdhar Road which is the only axis connecting the people of Tangdhar to the outside world is spotted with avalanche prone stretches all along the route. At 2 PM today, SDM, Karnah and his driver, PSO were trapped in a massive avalanche at sadhana pass. Indian Army’s Avalanche Rescue Team at Sadhna pass supported by troops deployed around sprang into action and dug out the buried vehicle from a huge mass of snow. The Avalanche Rescue Team after having dug it’s way through to the bottom of the snow pile, broke the vehicle's windshield to rescue all the trapped individuals. As per eye witnesses around, the avalanche was just short of rolling the vehicle down the cliff.

The buried team was immediately accorded first aid and later stabilised at Sadhna’s medical inspection room.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Karnah along with his driver and the PSO had a narrow escape on Tuesday after the vehicle they were travelling in came under a snow avalanche near Sadhna Top in snowbound Tanghdar area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Reports said soon after the vehicle came under the snow, army and police launched a rescue operation, safely rescuing the SDM Karnah Bilal Mohudin Bhat, his driver and the PSO

Station House Officer Tanghdar Waseem Ahmad Budoo told news agency GNS that the driver and the PSO suffered minor injuries.

The vehicle was on way to Kupwara from Karnah when it came under the snow avalanche.
