A driver was shocked after noticing a snake climbing on her car windscreen.

Travelling businesswoman Jodie Allen was parked up eating lunch inside her car when the reptile emerged in Louisiana.

The serpent began probing the glass like it was trying to find a way inside during the incident on April 14.

The shaken mother-of-three, who removed the embarrassing audio of her screaming in the video, said: "I was alone when it came crawling out so I freaked out. I was screaming the whole time because I am terrified of snakes.

''Maybe they are harmless but it scared the life out of me. I hate snakes so I was having a bit of a panic attack.''

Jodie said the snake, later identified as a rat snake, eventually ''jumped off'' and slithered away across the parking lot.

She added: ''I was screaming my head off . Thank God nobody could hear me.''

Rat snakes are nonvenomous reptiles that often feed on small rodents such as mice, rats, chipmunks, frogs, and lizards.
