Dozens of Muslims in the city of Medan, North Sumatra Province, Indonesia, continue to perform tarawih prayers in congregation before the holy month of Ramadan amid a coronavirus pandemic.

Even though the Indonesian government and the Indonesian Ulema Council had previously issued regulations for the people to hold fasting and tarawih prayers at home in order to break the chain of the spread of Ccovid-19, residents were ignored.

Medan City itself has been designated as a red zone in the distribution area of ​​Covid-19 in North Sumatra, where the number of positive Covid-19 patients has reached more than 100 people.

The tarawih prayer at Al Amin Mosque is carried out by continuing to implement health protocols such as mandatory wearing masks, carrying prayer mats from home, and for unhealthy worshipers forbidden to pray at the mosque.

"If we actually follow the Sunnah of the Apostles, for the determination of the tarawih prayer we have considered the opinions of the ulema and the government. Because of the enthusiasm of the followers of the Al Amin Mosque we continue to carry out even though in a modest manner and this is in accordance with the deliberation decision,"

"If there is definitely a lot of difference because with this condition we will make it shorter and sooner because we support the government's recommendation. The rules that we make pilgrims follow. Basically we prioritize masks mandatory, if there is no we do not allow prayers in this mosque,"


Jamaah hopes that the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia will pass quickly, so that the worship in the holy month of Ramadan can run calmly and solemnly, and not be afraid in the midst of a coronavirus.
