Secretary Bird stomps out its meal
Secretary Birds are fascinating birds of prey that stamp on the grass with their feet to flush out their prey. While snakes are supposedly their main food, their diet includes insects, lizards, grasshoppers, frogs, and mice. They hunt on foot using their powerful feet as stomping weapons. We came across this bird in Naboisho Conservancy in Kenya with guide Salaash Ole Morompi while staying at Asilia’s Mara Encounter Camp in February. It was strutting around scaring up food looking a lot like a dancer — very entertaining.
