Muslims in Indonesia's Bukittinggi city gather closely together on Friday during the holy month of Ramadan, ignoring the country's social distancing guidelines.

West Sumatra's provincial government has established social restrictions that prohibit community gatherings and instruct citizens to stay at home as much as possible and wear masks when leaving the house during an emergency.

As of Sunday, Indonesia has recorded more than 8,200 coronavirus cases and around 700 have died.

Indonesia's government has temporarily banned domestic road, air and sea travel in a bid to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Indonesia has the world's largest Muslim population.

Syatri Muslims in West Sumatra province, Indonesia, ensure the start of fasting in Ramadan 1441 Hijri begins on Saturday 25 April 2020.

This is different from what was determined by Indonesian government who had begun Ramadan fasting on April 24.

Certainty pilgrims were obtained after hundreds in several locations to take reckoning Takwin, which is seeing the moon with the unaided eye.

In footage filmed on Friday afternoon April 24, dozens of pilgrims gathered without social distance and without masks on a hill in Bukittinggi city.

They looked at the sky toward the sunset looking for a new beam of moonlight.

Inyiak Sati, one of the pilgrims said, the moon was seen at 06.24 p.m.

The moon is seen as a point of light curved at the bottom of the moon at a position a few degrees above the sunset point.

"After seeing the beam of the moon's light, it was decided that tonight the first Tarawih prayer would start and on Saturday it would start fasting," Inyiak Sati told the media.

The West Sumatra provincial government has established a status of Large-scale Social Restrictions that prohibit community gathering, staying at home, wearing masks when leaving the house during an emergency, and several other regulations to anticipate the coronavirus spreading.

As of Sunday, April 26 the Ministry of Health of Republic Indonesia noted, 102 positive corona patients, 87 were treated, 11 died, and 20 were cured. While in Indonesia 8,882 was positive, 743 died and 1,107 recovered.
