A venomous snake coiled up inside a shoe caused panic among residents of a neighbourhood in the southern Indian state of Karnataka.

The incident took place on November 3, 2019, in the outskirts of Tumkur city, as footage showed a rescuer using a snake hook to pull out the reptile.

Once out, the man grabbed the snake by its tail while using the hook to move it.

The man then placed the snake, identified as a spectacled cobra, near a sack.

The snake spotted the opening and slowly slithered inside.

According to reports, the snake was discovered by residents of the building, who heard a hissing noise coming from the shoe rack and called the snake rescue service.

The snake was later released in its natural habitat.
