Two schoolboys teach their smart parakeet to do an exercise routine in Phayao, northern Thailand.

Footage from shows how Tonnam Chaina and his younger brother have their Sun Conure parakeet some daily exercise moves.

The boy said his bird, named Heng, loves drinking sweet syrup so he started to teach it to exercise to stay in shape.

He said: "I was worried about its health since it loves to drink syrup so I thought I should have him exercise."

The boys' father said he only bought the bird for the boys to learn a life lesson.

He said: "I want them to learn how to take care of animals as I think it is an essential life lesson.

"I chose the Sun Conure because of its beautiful feathers but apparently it possessed much more than beautiful appearance."
