The Hospital del Mar, Barcelona, has converted seven floors into wards just treating patients that have contracted COVID-19.

Dr. Robert Güerri, coordinator of the COVID-19 unit at the hospital, explained that the hospital is currently discharging more patients than they are taking and that 80% of those infected will pass on mild symptoms of the virus.

Hospital del Mar is one of the most important public hospital centers in Spain.
The Hospital del Mar is a modern general and university hospital, active and
with research activity, which treats pathologies of medium and high complexity.

The Hospital del Mar has 400 conventional hospital beds (41 beds for critical
care), 33 Day Hospital places, 31 emergency boxes, 69 consulting rooms, 21
diagnostic rooms, 10 operating theatres and 2 delivery rooms for childbirth. It is
currently in the process of expansion, which will double its size, and which will
allow it to continue to offer satisfactory cover for the needs of the districts it
serves.

Dr. Robert Güerri, coordinator of the Covid Unit of the Hospital del Mar explains
that after the relaxation of the confinement measures there may be a new
rebound of the Covid-19.

Right now, hospital discharges are being given more than admissions. On the
other hand, he explains that mass tests are essential to control the virus.
The doctor explains that 80% of those infected with Covid-19 pass the disease
mildly and that 20% are serious cases that have to be admitted.
At the moment, the situation at Hospital del Mar has improved and they are
relatively calm.
