Urban wildlife has to tread a fine line between being seen by their human neighbours as beautiful or a nuisance.
If a species is too successful for its own good, it may be classed as 'vermin' - the animal equivalent of 'weeds', which are perfectly nice wild flowers that happen to be growing in what humans designate as 'the wrong place'. For animals, appearance matters too, so Five-striped Palm Squirrels Funambulus pennantii have it made - a fluffy tail, cute face and pretty markings is a winning combination. If they do a spot of gardening too, like this hungry fellow delicately trimming the grass verges for his brunch on a sunny day in the Garden of Dreams, Kathmandu, Nepal, what's not to like?
I suspect the humans relaxing nearby would react very differently if the rodent foraging at their feet happened to be a rat or mouse - equally #cute in the eye of some beholders...
