An Indian pangolin has been rescued from a vehicle tyre in northern India's Uttarakhand.

The incident took place May 1 in Jaspur town of Udham Singh Nagar district.

After spotting the animal, officials rushed to the spot to rescue the pangolin.

The video shows a pangolin curled up after being successfully rescued.

The Indian pangolin (Manis Crassicaudata), a largely nocturnal mammal that measures 3-5 feet (0.91-1.52 metres) and weighs 8-12 kilograms (17.63-26.45 lbs), lies firmly in the crosshairs of poachers in the central Indian state.

The scaly anteater is one of the most illegally traded animals for its medical benefits and meat.

These are endangered mammals, facing extinction because of human activities.

Pangolins from all over India are being killed for scales that are funnelled through the country to Myanmar, and then on to China.
