A police official survived a mini scare after he was dragged for a few metres on the bonnet of a car while trying to stop the vehicle in the northern Indian state of Punjab.

The incident took place near the Milk Bar Chowk in Jalandhar city on May 2.

Visual showed the law enforcement official holding on to the bonnet as it zoomed past the neighbourhood.

However, cops present at the scene were able to intercept the car.

Once it was stopped, the driver, a male youth, was asked to come out, following which police slapped him a few times for disobeying the law and putting an official's life at risk.

According to reports, the cop was doing his duty at a check post when he spotted the car and tried to stop it- as the driver had ventured out amid a curfew- disregarding the officíal's orders, the youth decided to take matters into his own hands and teach the cop a lesson.

Meanwhile, officials in India have extended the nationwide lockdown for the second time, as the number of COVID-19 cases spiked in recent weeks.

According to recent directives, restrictions will be in place till May 17.
