Police forces in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand are increasingly turning to drones or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to surveil populations and prevent the buildup of crowds during the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The incident took place at Banbhoolpura in Haldwani on May 2.

The police are flying drones over places where they suspect violations of the lockdown can occur.

The Banphoolpura area is amid a curfew to contain the coronavirus pandemic.

Police are now using the drone footage to identify the lockdown violators.

Consecutively they are being booked for the same.

The video shows people fleeing the area after spotting the drone flying above them.

Some people were seen strolling around the Haldwani railway station.

Despite the strict protocols and the bird's eye view of the drone, people are continuously violating the lockdown rules.
